Christmas Card Class

This is a short video on the cards I planned for the November Christmas Card Class. This was the last one for this season. I have to say I have really enjoyed coming up with the cards for this class. The first class was all about the hybrid card. A hybrid card uses a digital product, such as Stampin' Up! 's My Digital Studio, and non digital products.
I didn't think I wanted the Stampin' Up! My Digital Studio at first, but I have to tell you I am so glad I purchased it. There is so much I could say about this program; I think I will have to do a separate video on it. In the meantime you can check it out at www.lmdstampin.stampinup.net , by going to our online product catalog.
The second class was all about heat embossing and one card included a teabag fold. Both techniques are so much fun and easy to learn. I'm still working on the finesse of heat embossing, but what a magical way to add a touch of elegance to a card. I love watching the powder turn smooth and shiny.
Last but definitely not least, is the card class represented in today's video. This last class was all about the traditional Christmas colors, red and green. One card was a K.I.S.S. card and the other two were embellished with some of our wonderful punches. You can find all these great products at the before mentioned link.
Like I said earlier, I really enjoyed creating the cards for these classes. Some of them will be or have been posted on my Youtube Channel and on this blog. I hope you enjoy them.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I would love to hear from you.

Hello Doily Thanks So Much card

Sometimes a project is started because I just want to play with some new thing I've gotten. I try out the new thing and then nothing. I get stumped. So the project sits on my table for a few days or weeks, maybe even months. Suddenly, one day it all comes together.

Today's video is a case in point. One day I wanted to try out one of my new embossing powders (Tempting Turquoise) with the beautiful Hello Doily stamp. I had decided that it would be a simple A2 (4-1/4" x 5-1/2") card without background layers. I embossed the card and a small section of it did not come out well, so I thought I have to figure out how to cover that, thus the ribbon. At first I wasn't sure what color I wanted to add to the Tempting Turquoise so I pulled out my trusty Color Coach (love that thing), and voila! Real Red. And that's were everything stopped.

I loved how the embossed doily looked (except for the minor flaw of course) but that was it. I wasn't thrilled with the ribbon and I couldn't figure out where to go. So it sat. Every now and then I would pick it up, look at it, and put it back down. I had to work hard to keep it from getting lost in the shuffle of things and totally ruined.

Well, to my pleasant suprise it all came together Tuesday evening (though ever so slowly). My doily card became a part of a card instead the card itself. I trimmed it to a 4" x 5-1/4" layer removing the embossing that didn't come out so well. Then I played around with some of our paper daisies, and added a brights designer button. I had been wanting to decorate a pin with beads for sometime, so this experiment was also added to the card. Lastly, I placed everything on a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" Crumb Cake card. Oh yes, and added the ribbon from the original project. All in all, I think it came out nice.

Sometimes, in life and art the journey doesn't seem to make sense, then suddenly one day it all comes together. We never know when it's going to happen, but if we keep moving forward, eventually it does happen.

So how about you? Care to share how one of your creative mishaps turned into a work of art. I would love to hear about it.

P.S. The FREE Big Shot promotion has been extended to November 11th.

Always Thankful Blossom Party card

"There's always something for which to be thankful"-Charles Dickens

That is the sentiment on today's card. You know, I find this to be so true in my life. Yeah, sometimes life is frustrating, disappointing, and just darn right ugly, but many of us (especially here in the US) have much to be thankful for. We just need to stop for a moment and think about it. I don't know about you, but just realizing how much God has spared me of in this life gives me a greatful heart.

Another thing that helps me is spending time amongst God's creation. I'm fortunate enough to live in a rural area. Right outside my office I have a view the the Angeles National Forest instead of concrete and roof tops. I know not everyone can live like this, but nature is all around us (even in the city). You may have to drive a little, walk or take the bus, but it's out there. My family used to take 6 week long trips in our motorhome in the summer. Well, the gas prices put a stop to that. We have not done that in at least 4 years (I get a little stir crazy every summer).

So then what? Well I visit one my friends who lives up in the mountains or just drive to the closest lake, park, trail, etc. What I'm trying to say is, if you're feeling unthankful, maybe you need a change of scenery (and an attitude adjustment). Go to the ocean and listen to the crashing waves, or take a drive to the countryside, or find a trail, park or lake close by to visit. Or if you can see them, sit and watch the stars at night.

Lastly, get involved. When I'm not engaged in community, interesting enough, I started feeling the pitty party. Oh woest me. Pout, pout, pout. That's how we get when we spend too much time with ourselves. We become very self-focused. Two things I know to be true, is God did not intend us to be islands unto ourselves and being self-focused (self-centered) never brings satisfaction. We were created to commune with God and to commune with others.

So what do you have to be thankful for? One thing I'm very thankful for, is all of you who take time out of you life to visit my blog.

Enjoy the journey : )
